There are several indexes that track the performance of companies with female CEOs or gender-diverse leadership teams. The BeQHoldings/IFRC indices are the first Women CEO indices in the world. They were launched in 2013 and their history is recalculated since 2008.

Women CEO indexes

There are only two Women CEO indexes in the world.

2013, BeQ Holdings/IFRC Vietnam VNX Women CEO Indexes Series

VNX WOMEN CEO index is a AllShares index with all listed companies in the Ho chi Minh and Hanoi Stock Exchanges which are managed by women CEO.

VNX WOMEN CEO 10 index and VNX WOMEN CEO 25 are Tradable indexes in selecting Top companies in term of free float capitalization and liquidity suitable for index products (Futures, ETF).

They were launched in 2013, their history is recalculated backwards from 2008-12-31, and are available in Price version, and Total Return version (including dividends), and converted in several currencies (VND, USD, EUR, and JPY).

Their performances are impressive in comparison with the national indices calculated by the Vietnamese Stock Exchanges, such as VNI or HNX Indexes.

Investors look first at the performance/risk pair. With a historical volatility very close to that of VNI index, around 20% per year, the WOMEN CEO indices, and especially WOMEN CEO 10 and WOMEN CEO 25, largely outperform the VNI index, with an average of 20% per year, i.e. a return difference more than 10% per year.

In addition, over the more turbulent recent period 2020-2023, their cumulative return is about 80%, much higher compared to 6% of the VNI national index.

This year, we will extend these Women CEO indexes to the Women OnBoard indexes by selecting companies with a significant percentage of women executives and on the board of directors for Vietnam, and duplicate this model to other ASEAN countries (Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines) and other major financial stock Markets in Asia (Japan, Korea, China).

2021, Hypatia Women CEO Index

The Hypatia Women CEO Index℠ (HWCEO), designed by Hypatia Capital Management LLC and created in 2021, measures the performance of publicly traded securities that have female Chief Executive Officers

ESG scores and data are widely available for international listed companies because they are mandatory in annual reports. They are not yet for Vietnam, which explains the difficulty of obtaining this current and historical data. Developing the Women On Board or Leadership indexes must first go through the construction of a database of these data which are currently absent in Vietnam.
